Small Business Majority released a new poll that reveals that entrepreneurs who offer health coverage to their employees are struggling with rising healthcare costs and are being forced to make changes to their benefits offerings as a result. Additionally, the poll found strong support for policy solutions to lower costs, with 96% of entrepreneurs agreeing that healthcare providers should be required to publicly post the prices they charge for services.

Small business owners join White House Regional Business Leader Summit

On March 15, Small Business Majority network members, alongside other small business owners and advocates, attended the White House's inaugural Regional Business Leader Summit to discuss how to help Main Street thrive with the U.S. Small Business Administration Administrator Isabel Casillas Guzman and other members of the Biden-Harris Administration! It was inspiring to see so many small business owners come together to talk about solutions to today’s biggest small business issues.

Sisters Lakila Bowden and Kamille Richardson are reframing disability and disproving myths that providing accommodations for differently abled employees is expensive and burdensome to businesses through their consulting company, iSee Technologies. 

Kamille explains, “People look at inclusivity through a lens of limitation, but we teach that inclusivity is about unlocking people’s capabilities, which provide value for companies. It is all about creative problem solving.”  

On our resource portal Venturize, we are compiling information on new funding opportunities, relevant tips and resources on building more resilient small businesses.

Small Business Majority recently launched its new Alliance for a Resilient Small Business Economy to convene a diverse group of partner organizations in pursuit of a common goal: To break down systemic barriers that currently block equitable access to business capital and assistance.

Small Business Majority participates in the Small Business Administration's Child Care Conference

On March 25, National Small Business Council member Janna Rodriguez and Small Business Majority Government Affairs Director Alexis D’Amato attended the U.S. Small Business Administration's (SBA's) first Child Care Conference. Janna also participated in a roundtable at the White House with SBA Administrator Isabella Casillas Guzman where small business owners, SBA resource partners and childcare providers discussed the administrator’s vision for improving the childcare ecosystem.

New poll: Colorado, Georgia and Tennessee small business owners support expanding access to occupational licensing for justice-impacted individuals

On March 7, Small Business Majority released new polls in Colorado, Georgia and Tennessee that reveal small business owners support reforms that remove barriers to occupational licensing for justice-impacted individuals, as well as measures to end debt-based drivers license suspensions. Additionally, the polls find that entrepreneurs are struggling to recruit and retain qualified workers amidst a workforce shortage, and that these reforms would allow them to access an underutilized workforce.

Small Business Majority testifies on closing corporate tax loopholes

On January 17, Small Business Majority CEO and Founder John Arensmeyer testified before the U.S. Senate Budget Committee in a hearing titled “The Great Escape: Closing the Corporate Loopholes that Reward Offshoring Jobs and Profits.” He shared comments on how the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) has failed to deliver for Main Street America and called on Congress to make the international tax code more equitable to ensure America’s small businesses are not left picking up the tab that remains unpaid by the largest corporations.

New poll: New Mexico small business owners support a state-administered paid family and medical leave program

On January 10, Small Business Majority released a new poll of New Mexico small business owners, which revealed that they overwhelmingly support (85%) the creation of a state-administered paid family and medical leave program. Additionally, the poll found that 61% of entrepreneurs believe that a state-run program would level the playing field for small businesses to better compete with larger companies that can afford to offer robust benefits on their own.

On November 13, Small Business Majority hosted a webinar on how a potential government shutdown would negatively impact small businesses nationwide. Representative Sharice Davids (KS-3) and small business owner Talibah Bayles provided special remarks on the importance of small businesses to their local economies and the need for bipartisan collaboration to avoid a shutdown.

New poll: Small business owners utilize new technologies to manage their business’ finances

On November 7, Small Business Majority released a new poll of small business owners, which revealed that many of them adopted new technologies such as accounting software and digital point of sale systems during the pandemic. Additionally, the poll found that there is a gender gap in technology utilization: male entrepreneurs are more likely than women to use both accounting software and point of sale systems.

On October 11, CEO John Arensmeyer attended an event at the White House where President Biden introduced the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau's (CFPB) new efforts to crack down on "junk fees" and lower costs for consumers and small businesses. 

Small Business Majority hosts webinar on childcare funding cliff with Congresswoman Bonamici

On September 29, Small Business Majority and the National Women's Law Center co-hosted a webinar on the upcoming childcare funding crisis and its impact on small businesses. Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (D-Ore.) joined to provide special remarks about how the Child Care Stabilization Act would provide the necessary federal funds to keep the childcare industry afloat and support the small business ecosystem.
